Best Advice for Business #1

Setting goals, persistency and being nice – all pay dividends!

By Tim Guest, Owner of Guest Investments Ltd

“My first piece of business advice is to set goals and be relentless in achieving them. Never give up. And once you have achieved those goals, set some more to get to where you want to be!

“I would always urge people to be persistent. Don’t take no for an answer.

“My third piece of advice is to always be nice. It doesn’t cost anything, and it pays dividends!”

Established in 2001, Browns Print is the North West’s largest commercial printer, specialising in delivering high quality print for a wide customer base throughout the UK. It has invested heavily in technology over the years.

Browns Print was purchased by Tim Guest, owner of Guest Investments Limited, whose vision was to understand what the businesses could provide to a changing market. Two factories located on opposite sides of Manchester were located into one larger premises in 2018, bringing together their print operations and creating space for future growth.

Much of the funding was provided from Tim’s own capital. However, CBILS were also used for an investment in a new press to replace older equipment and to create a bindery department in the company’s new state-of-the-art 26,000 sq ft premises in Middleton, Manchester.

“We always look to buy new machinery to ensure we get the longest life possible out of the investment,” said Tim. “With advances in technology, we can reduce make-ready times and reduce energy costs in stopping the machine for routine work and manual operations.”

The vision has led to the reinvigoration of Browns Print with new investment and growth opportunities.
