Industry Spotlights & Insights #2

Cityscape Dusseldorf at Night

A taste of things to come at drupa

By David Bunker, Co-Owner & Director, Compass Business Finance

Even though we’ve not had a drupa for eight years, it has always been a definitive show for the printing and packaging industry. It is the last remaining pan-European event, that attracts a global audience, where exhibitors bring new and disruptive technologies, so it’s definitely worth celebrating.

Since the last drupa in 2016, we’ve been through Covid and a period of high inflation – two factors that have had an adverse impact on confidence levels and decisions to invest.

Confidence is now rising, we are moving away from recession, and interest rates are softening – there appears to be a real energy and enthusiasm from companies planning to attend.

At Compass, we’re proud to represent all parts of the industry, across all different technologies. From recent conversations with suppliers, it’s clear that a lot of people are heading over to Dusseldorf for drupa, to make investment decisions.

I’ll be arriving the day before the show officially opens (Monday 27th) and staying through to the end. I am confident this is going to be a great show, and can’t wait to get stuck in.

The team and I will be available to support our suppliers partners and our customers throughout the show, to talk about the great opportunities for funding.

One option we will be talking about is the possibility of low-start finance of up to six months – available for some customers in the right circumstances. Of course there is also the continuance of the British Business Bank’s support for SMEs with the forthcoming Growth Guarantee Scheme – we’re encouraging businesses to engage with us as early as possible on this.

Another discussion point will be the fast-developing area of asset-based lending (ABL) enabling larger investments to take place. It looks at the business to raise capital from a variety of asset areas, for example, invoice finance, assets, stock, property and loans.

A high point of drupa will of course be the Compass Drinks Evening in the Altstadt on 31st May – which you’re all invited to – please contact Sarah for more info. We look forward to hosting as many of our customers and supplier partners from the industry as can make it.

Looking forward to seeing you all there, creating some drupa memories, closing some deals, enjoying some beers and maybe not too much pork knuckle!
